Child Parent Relationship Therapy
Child Parent Relationship Therapy is an evidence based model of filial therapy created and delivered by qualified play therapists. The programme aims to increase the emotional connection, communication, empathy and understanding between parent and child/young person. There are multiple versions of the course to suit all families; from nursery age, 4-12 year olds, 12-18 year olds and adopted families to name a few examples of how flexible the course can be.

The benefit of completing a therapeutic programme aimed to strengthen family relationships, communication and positive quality time is limitless. With how busy and stressful modern society can be, our family relationships are our biggest protective factor when it comes to navigating this and they offer us the most emotional relief and support. However, sometimes our family can feel pulled in a hundred directions and when we look back it doesn't feel like we have been able to focus on each other as much as we would like to have.
The CPRT course can be completed as a bespoke personal programme in your home, with your extended family and support network or in a group with other families in the community. Furthermore, parents/carers completing the Child Parent Relationship Therapy Course either alongside or prior to your child or young person receiving Therapeutic Support forms a very thorough and holistic package of support for the whole family. Every member of a family is equally important to how it functions and every person has equal power to change how each other person experiences family, like cogs working together to work one machine. I believe that the most successful approach towards supporting a young person is to work with the whole family unit.
Ultimately, any therapeutic intervention is time limited, whereas supporting parents/carers to understand and apply the therapeutic skills that a therapist would use, can offer lifelong support for the whole family. Research also indicates that support such as Child Parent Relationship Therapy can help reduce a young person's need to re-enter Therapy throughout their lives, continuing to support them without the need for further professional intervention.
